The Tandan Music Academy was officially inaugurated on the 26th March, 2025 at Mapao Zingsho Village, marking a significant milestone in the organization’s mission to provide music education to children and adults from under-served and under-privileged backgrounds. The event brought together a diverse audience of music enthusiasts, community leaders, and supporters.

The event featured captivating performances by talented musicians, showcasing the academy’s commitment to promoting music education and cultural exchange. The audience was treated to a diverse range of musical styles and genres, highlighting the richness and diversity of the region’s musical heritage.

The launch event was attended by notable guests, including Padma Shri awardee Guru Rewben Mashangva; Iman Bhattacharyya, Grants Manager, Anaha Trust; Christopher Rego, Founder, Sunbird Trust; and Pradip Phanjoubam, Senior Journalist and Founder, Imphal Free Press. Their presence added to the event’s prestige and underscored the significance of the academy’s mission. The event successfully showcased the academy’s vision and mission, setting the stage for its future growth and impact.

Students and teachers across all Tandan Schools and Learning Centers came together to observe International Yoga Day in their classrooms. With enthusiasm and eagerness, they practiced various yoga asanas, breathing techniques, and meditation. The day’s activities aimed to promote physical and mental well-being, while also fostering a sense of camaraderie among students and teachers. By incorporating yoga into their daily routine, the students were taught valuable lessons about discipline, focus, and self-awareness.

Thanks to a generous donation from a private individual, Tandan Charitable Trust was able to distribute over 250 school bags to children in three villages: Sinam, Mapao Zingsho, and Sinam Kom. This act of kindness brought joy and encouragement to the young students who had been facing numerous challenges in their pursuit of studies since the previous year.

The school bag distribution was particularly significant, as it coincided with the resumption of classes at Tandan Learning Centres in these villages. After a prolonged period of school closures due to the conflict, the new bags symbolized a fresh start for the students, motivating them to resume their studies with renewed enthusiasm.

Tandan School in Sinam Kom was officially inaugurated on 3rd May 2023, amidst great enthusiasm and excitement. This inauguration marked a significant milestone in the journey of the entire village community, who through their collaborative efforts with the surrounding 10 villages, made this dream of making education accessible to their children, a reality. This school aims to provide quality education to the children of Sinam Kom and surrounding areas. 

The inauguration was a testament to the collective efforts of the community, Tandan Trust, and its supporters. The school’s infrastructure, which was constructed using ecofriendly and green materials, and through the generosity of Anaha Trust, Bangalore, is designed to provide a conducive learning environment to more than 300 children from the local communities. The students and teachers were filled with joy and anticipation as they embarked on this new chapter in their educational journey. With its inauguration, Tandan School, Sinam Kom is poised to become a beacon of hope and learning for the entire region.

In a collaborative effort with Sunbird Trust, Tandan Trust distributed Schneider Electric solar lamps to the villagers of Sinam Kom, an initiative aimed at providing sustainable and reliable lighting solutions to improve their overall quality of life. The event was graced by the presence of Colonel Sandeep Mishra and Assistant Commandant Praveen Singh from Assam Rifles, who were invited as special guests. The solar lamps, designed to provide efficient and eco-friendly lighting, are expected to have a significant impact on the daily lives of the villagers, enabling them to pursue their daily activities with greater ease and safety.

The entire Sinam Kom and Sinam village turned out to warmly welcome and celebrate the visit of special guests who were investing in the future of their children. The community came together to share their vibrant cultural traditions with children, youth and the women’s society, performing traditional tribal dances and singing folk songs.

Their beaming smiles and heartfelt gestures conveyed their deep gratitude, transcending language barriers. As a symbol of appreciation, a tree plantation ceremony was held at the Tandan school campus, where each guest planted a Magnoliacae Champaca sapling along the entrance.

The village youth constructed a cozy bamboo hut, where a delicious meal featuring traditional Manipuri dishes and desserts was served. The Sinam Kom community’s exceptional hospitality and warmth forged a lasting bond with their guests.

Colonel Christopher Rego of Sunbird Trust visited Sinam Kom village and the Tandan School Campus, where he was warmly welcomed by the local community. The villagers showcased their rich cultural heritage through traditional dance and folk songs, adding a vibrant touch to the occasion.

The visit was memorable one, with the Sinam Kom village chief and his council, women’s association, children, and the chiefs of 5 neighboring tribal villages joining in to spend a meaningful day with Colonel Rego. The event nurtured a sense of community, creating a warm and lasting memory for all.
