Tandan Learning Centres, Sinam Village & Mapao Zingsho Village
After a few months of classes in 2023, a state-wide conflict broke out which affected the way children and teachers from different communities came together to the school campus. The whole state of Manipur faced a huge crisis; all schools were closed. Most of the school campus across the state, including Tandan school, were used as relief centers for people who got internally displaced due to the war.
Considering the safety of everyone and ensuring that learning continues for Tandan students, an alternative education program was designed as a temporary arrangement for this academic year by setting up three learning centers.

What is the Alternative Education Program (AEP)?
The learning centers: Our students and teachers come from different tribal villages belonging to different communities. Catering to the current need of keeping everyone in their respective communities, 3 learning centers are set up to provide education for 70+ students.

Tandan teachers, villages youth and village teacher volunteers who are a part of the Tandan Alternative Education Program (AEP) are trained in maintaining needful administration and documentation of the centers. Tandan Trust provides monthly training and coming together of all the teachers. Through several interaction programs held with village leaders, parents of the students, Tandan teachers and Tandan founders, more parent-participation is seen in these learning centers.
A typical day in a learning center looks like a regular working day in a school. It follows the school time table, extracurricular activities like sports, art and music, social work and volunteer work time from the community.
